On my last visit to London I’d put Holland Park on my to do list, weather permitting. Thankfully the sun was out that day and it was more than warm enough for me to eat breakfast there before heading towards my main goal of Kyoto Garden.

Newstead Abbey Part 2: The Gardens
During my recent visit to Newstead Abbey I wanted to make sure I saw as much of the gardens as possible, though not all – since they cover more than 300 acres! I decided the best way of accomplishing this was by following the route on the map I had purchased from the Abbey Gift Shop. Although there have been gardens on the site since the times of the priory, the current layout owes much of its design to the later owners, such as the Byrons and the Wildmans.
Kirby Hall
Back in May (yes, I got behind again) I took a trip to Kirby Hall in Northamptonshire. It’s an English Heritage property once owned by Sir Christopher Hatton, one of Queen Elizabeth I’s favourites. He hoped that the Queen would pay a visit to Kirby, which she never did, though James I and his wife were to visit several times.
