Chedworth Roman Villa

Please note photos have been removed due to lack of hosting space.

Chedworth Roman Villa is one of the largest Roman villas in Britain and was rediscovered by the Victorians over 150 years ago. Now in the care of the National Trust it’s a really impressive site allowing you access to the mosaic floors so typical of Roman buildings, as well as the bathhouse rooms.

Avebury Manor

Please note photos have been removed due to lack of hosting space.

Avebury Manor is a National Trust property in Wiltshire, right next to Avebury Stone Circle (the subject of my next post). Built in the 1550s the BBC used it in a TV project where they redecorated and refurnished the rooms so that each one reflects a different time period, from the Tudors to the 1930s.

Wollaton Hall Wildlife 2016

Please note photos have been removed due to lack of hosting space.

The deer at Wollaton Hall are currently rutting so I thought that would be a good opportunity to take some photographs (being mindful not to get too close, of course!) Below are some of the photos I captured of the stags, plus geese and swans around the lake.

Stonehenge 2016

Please note photos have been removed due to lack of hosting space.

I don’t really think that Stonehenge requires much of an introduction and I have written about my first visit to the site here. This time I made the return because my brother had never been and wanted to go and we happened to be holidaying fairly nearby.

The Rack Isle, Bibury

Arlington Row in Bibury is apparently one of the most photographed streets in the Cotswolds. The Row is a set of cottages looked after by the National Trust that were built in 1380 as a wool store and then converted into weaver’s cottages in the 17th century.

On a recent holiday to the Cotswolds we spent some time in the picturesque village of Bibury in Gloucestershire. One of the places we had a look around was St Mary’s Church, a Grade I listed building.

Leicester Cathedral

Please note photos have been removed due to lack of hosting space.

The main focus on a recent trip to Leicester was all things Richard III and naturally that included a visit to Leicester Cathedral where his remains were reinterred on March 26th 2015. After having been to the Visitor Centre and seen displays on how the remains were discovered (blog post here) we were keen to see his final resting place for ourselves.

Trentham Gardens

Please note photos have been removed due to lack of hosting space.

On the same day we visited the Monkey Forest we headed next door to Trentham Gardens. Examining a map beforehand we decided to walk around the mile long Trentham Lake, designed by Capability Brown, stopping off to also visit the ruins of Trentham Hall and the Italian Gardens.
