The Owls Trust, Llandudno

I discovered The Owls Trust in Llandudno when researching potential things to visit in the town that I hadn’t been to before. The Trust has been allowed to set up their facilities at Bodafon Farm Park and entrance to the farm also includes entrance to the Trust’s bird cages. They are a charity rescuing and rehabilitating injured birds of prey which if possible they release back into the wild and also work to protect rare breeds around the world.

Lotherton: Wildlife World

Lotherton is an Edwardian house and country estate with gardens, extensive grounds, a deer park and a small zoo. When I first visited back in 2013 you couldn’t take photos inside the house and Wildlife World was originally a bird garden. Much has changed since then however and I’m splitting these posts into the zoo, the house, the chapel and the gardens, starting with our first destination of the zoo. There is still more of a concentration on birds here than on the animals they’ve since acquired and one of my favourites was this lovely Edward’s pheasant, named after a former director of the Natural History Museum in Paris.

The Wise Owl Walk, Nottingham

Today for the first time since March I ventured into Nottingham City Centre in order to photograph the 10 owls that make up the Wise Owl Walk. It was quite a good work out as the owls are spread out around the city centre and I walked there and back to avoid using public transport. The owls are really well designed and it’s a nice way of getting people back into the city centre, though personally I didn’t stick around other than to take photographs which is probably what I would have done pre-pandemic as well!
