Throwback Thursday: Aldwych Tube Station

Aldwych is a closed station on the London Underground which opened in November 1907 with the name Strand, as you can see below, named after the street it is on.

During the Second World War the station was closed and used as an air raid shelter and the unused tunnels were used to store art from the British Museum. It was finally closed for good in 1994 to passengers though many films and TV shows including Atonement and Sherlock have been shot there.
