The Keats’ Walk, Winchester

It was such a surprisingly lovely and sunny week when I was away in Winchester that after I finished up at the National Trust Mill I decided it would be nice to have a walk along the River Itchen. I had a look on the Winchester Tourism site to see if there were any designated trails nearby. This was how I came across the Keat’s Trail/Walk. The poet John Keats had stayed in Winchester in 1819 and took this walk daily eventually inspiring him to write the poem “To Autumn”. The beginning of the trail starts around Winchester Cathedral and it just so happened that I had done that section already on my own visit to the Cathedral. Normally I write these post in the order that I did things, but on this occasion the first half of this post took place two days before the second half.

The Park Garden Trail 2023

Sunday 11 June was the 25th year that the Park Estate in Nottingham (a private housing estate which in a previous life was the deer park for Nottingham Castle) have put on their Park Garden Trail. Residents in the estate open up some of their gardens to visitors with the fee of £7.50 going towards local charities. The event is held every two years (COVID notwithstanding) and it’s one of those things that I was vaguely aware happened but had never attended before, so I decided on a whim to do it this year, buying my ticket online the night before.

Bodlondeb Woods Nature Reserve, Conwy

Bodlondeb (which means contentment) is 19 acres of woodland just to the west of Conwy Quayside; there are many footpaths through and around the woods and the one I took came off the Wales Coast Path. It was getting on in the afternoon and I hadn’t planned to visit the woods but as is often the case I saw a trail and decided to follow it!
