It had been a while since I’d been to the farm so I decided to pop by just after one of May’s many bank holidays so that I could see the lambs, and also I hadn’t yet been to see the meerkats which they now, somewhat randomly, have in their barn.

Llanrwst, Wales
Llanrwst is a small market town less than a mile from the edge of Snowdonia. My main purpose for visiting was to go to Gwydir Castle (which will feature in a later post) but I also had time to wander around the town. It was easy to get to from Llandudno Junction Railway Station (just across the bridge from Conwy) though there were at the time of writing only about four trains a day and only a couple that were actually helpful for my needs. Note there is a North Llanrwst Station and a Llanrwst – for the town and castle you’ll want Llanrwst (North Llanrwst is a request stop so if you do want to get off here make yourself known to the train staff). As you can see the railway station is one of the smallest I’ve been to.

Stonebridge City Farm, Nottingham
I visit Stonebridge City Farm fairly regularly and, when it’s been allowed to open during the pandemic, it’s always a lovely (and safe) place to visit for a change of scene during various lockdowns. Here are a few photos from my most recent visit.

Stonebridge City Farm, Nottingham
Stonebridge City Farm has been a lovely place to visit during all sorts of iterations of lockdown in England. They’ve lost a lot of money having to keep opening and then closing again so if you could donate a little something here that would be great. My last visit pre-Christmas was to see their new calf – Orion – as well as some of the other photogenic residents.

Beaumaris Castle

Beaumaris Castle on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales was another castle, like Caernarfon to be built by Edward I. Construction began in 1295 but stopped around 1300 with the castle unfinished.

The Norwegian Folk Museum, Oslo

The Norwegian Folk Museum showcases life in Norway from 1500 to the present. Although I was aware that this is largely an open air museum with historic buildings that have been relocated here (160) I was struck by how vast the place is and the amount of information on display. As well as exhibits in the main building you can enter many of the historical buildings and explore further exhibitions.

Stonebridge City Farm

On what turned out to be a surprisingly sunny day in October we headed out to Stonebridge City Farm which, as the name suggests, is right in the heart of Nottingham City. The barn was erected in 1980 and the first animals to be housed there were 2 goats, but it is now home to a range of animals from chickens to cows and horses, as well as gardens and a small nature trial.
