North Western Gardens, Llandudno

A small green space just down the road from Mostyn Art Gallery, it perhaps isn’t the most photogenic of Llandudno’s areas but it is home to the White Rabbit statue, part of the Alice in Wonderland trail and a couple of other interesting items, including what I’ve since learnt are some infamous public toilets. It was named for the nearby North Western Hotel which is now a Premier Inn.

The toilets are quite a nice Victorian design though apparently the whole gardens have the nickname “bog island” because of the toilets which you have to pay to access.

What actually caught my attention though was the large sculpture that was unveiled in 1998. A creation of CAMM Designs of Liverpool it illustrates the history of Llandudno with Romans, Vikings and the prehistoric all represented.

Also, as already mentioned, the gardens are part of the Alice in Wonderland trail – site of the white rabbit.

I wouldn’t say it’s a must see or anything, unless you’re doing the Alice trail, but it does show that there are interesting highlights of history in the unlikeliest of places.
