For my birthday in May I decided to go somewhere we hadn’t been before that related to animals and came across Tropical Birdland in Leicestershire. It’s a non-profit making, privately owned sanctuary for parrots and exotic birds, many of which are unwanted pets.
There are over 250 birds housed in the 6.5 acres of Tropical Birdland and many of them are allowed to fly freely. They’ve been around since 1982 and also have a programme of breeding for endangered species, some of which you can see in the chick room.
We really enjoyed our time here, not only getting close to the birds but walking through the woodland area and having an excellent lunch at the on-site restaurant. At £7.75 for an adult ticket it’s very reasonably priced and we spent a large chunk of the day there. Some of my favourite residents are below.
