Bears! Nature, Culture and Beyond, Archaeology Museum, University of Nottingham

In that weird time between Christmas and New Year I decided to go up to the Lakeside Arts part of the University of Nottingham campus as there were a few free exhibitions running that I’d been meaning to go to before they closed and realised I was fast running out of time. This bears exhibition was in the Museum of Archaeology which you can find just along from the South Entrance to the campus – if travelling by public transport there’s a tram stop very close by.

Whipsnade Zoo

At the beginning of May we went on a trip to Whipsnade Zoo – one of two zoos (the other being London Zoo) that are owned by the Zoological Society of London, a charity devoted to wildlife conservation. It’s the UK’s largest zoo covering over 600 acres and we were very impressed with how much space the animals had to roam around.

The Welsh Mountain Zoo

The Welsh Mountain Zoo in North Wales opened on 18 May 1963 and became the National Zoo of Wales in 2008. It was founded by the naturalist Robert Jackson and run by him and after his death by his family until 1983 when it was taken over by the Zoological Society of Wales. One of its more interesting features is its location, as the name suggests, high up a mountain with views of the sea as well as woodlands.
