After I booked my trip to Conwy due to several factors including train strikes being on and off again because of the Queen’s funeral I ended up extending my stay in Wales in order to avoid the worst of the travel chaos. I had considered going somewhere new but since I was booking so close to when I was travelling I wasn’t left with a lot of reasonably priced options so I decided to go back to Llandudno which benefited from being a place I really like and an easy half hour bus journey from Conwy.

Llandudno was specifically built as a holiday destination for the Victorians and is often referred to as the Queen of Welsh resorts. The town was named for the parish of St Tudno, a 16th century saint.

The pier is of course Llandudno’s most famous feature and I wrote about it at my last visit here, but it’s had a bit of a revamp since then so I’ll be writing about it again later. The best views of the pier can be found by walking around the Great Orme (the historic headland that can be be traversed on foot, by the Great Orme Tramway or if you’re feeling adventurous by cable car). As I’d travelled on the tramway before this time I found myself tackling the Great Orme by foot on different days from a variety of directions (to be featured in later posts).

The town is famous for its Alice in Wonderland connections which I’ve written about before here. The family of the real life inspiration for Alice supposedly spent their holidays in Llandudno and the town has many fun Wonderland sculptures as part of an art trail for you to keep an eye out for.

Llandudno is also a great place to walk from the Great Orme, to the Botanical Gardens and along the promenade to the beautiful beaches.

Time now to settle in for a whole series of posts about lovely Llandudno.
It all looks so lovely. I have a real soft spot for historic seaside resorts across the UK, they really have a charm about them.

Me too! Some of them can be quite run down but the nicer ones do have a lovely cosiness about them.
