Colwick Country Park – September 2023

Recently needing to de-stress after a particularly busy week at work I ventured out to Colwick Country Park with my dad, prompted to do so by a recent council email about improvements to the footpaths at the park. A huge park with lakes and a marina that was opened in 1978 we were impressed with the new pathways – much more comfortable to walk on and far better for pushchairs and wheelchair uses.

There are several walks around the 250 acre park and if I’d been alone I’d have done one of the longer ones but as I was with my dad we opted for the shorter Mallard route (they all have animal names). This is a 1.2 mile circular route through the park’s woodland areas.

Lots of water means lots of water fowl. Swans, ducks and geese of course but we also spotted a cormorant – though it was too intent on diving for food to stop long enough for me to take a picture!

A really lovely place to visit – a very slow meander took us around two hours but you could certainly spend a good portion of the day there going around all the different trails. There are also some play areas for children (one of them quite new), toilets and a food kiosk (check for opening times on the council’s website).
